Professor, Game Design - Part Time

We are looking for qualified professionals to teach part-time in our Game Design program at our Fennell Campus.

We are looking for expertise in the following areas:

  • Game programming (introductory C#)
  • Game engines (Godot, Unity, Unreal)
  • 2D and 3D Game Graphics
  • Interactive narrative
  • Games User-Experience (UX)
  •  Visual Effects (VFX)
  • Psychology applied to games
  • Business of games

Start dates: September 2024, January 2025, and May 2025 (courses may run Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 10:00pm)

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

  •  Relevant educational qualifications in Game Design, Game Development, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional and relevant game design experience in the game industry.
  • Prior post-secondary teaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience with relevant industry software as it relates to one’s specific discipline, such as:

o      Godot, Unity, and Unreal, with considerations for other engines such as Gamemaker, etc.
o      Adobe Creative Cloud: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.
o      3D modelling and animation software: Blender, Maya, 3DS Max, etc.
o      Interactive narrative tools such as Twine, Inklewriter, YarnSpinner, etc.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the game design, game development, industry pipeline, and practices.
  • Robust understanding of Ontario and Canada’s games industry, including emerging technologies and current trends.
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills and a commitment to diversity and equity are essential. Ability to work in an environment where a diversity of people and situations are encountered.
  • Ability to convey the conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students, respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and individual learning styles is also essential, as is the desire to contribute to the education of the next generation of apprentices.
  • Prior experience using technology (i.e. LMS, online teaching, etc.) is preferred.
  • Candidates must also be committed to working within a team environment and to participating in a consultative decision-making process.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.

Part time faculty positions are part of Mohawk College’s response to the Calls to Action in Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Report, and as part of our commitment to our Indigenous Education and Initiatives Plan, preference will be given to Indigenous Peoples or Peoples of Turtle Island, including those who identify as First Nations (status or non-status), Metis & Inuit.

Candidates should have experience and knowledge of Indigenous education, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and EDI in curriculum/program development, teaching and learning.
