The Joyce Centre for Partnership & Innovation is currently under construction at our Fennell Campus and will open in Summer 2018. This 96,000 square foot net-zero building will support College applied research activities, provide new classrooms and labs with a focus on sustainability, and will be the home for the new Centre of Climate Change Management.
Centre for Climate Change Management (CCCM)
Mohawk College, the City of Hamilton and the City of Burlington will partner to coordinate efforts to tackle climate change in the Hamilton and Burlington area, while developing and sharing best practices across Ontario and beyond. The Centre for Climate Change Management will demonstrate how a regional approach to climate action in Ontario can support the emissions reduction goals of the Province. The key objectives for the Centre are to:
·Support the goals and actions of municipal, provincial, and federal governments to mitigate climate change by reducing carbon emissions within our communities;
·Strengthen regional collaboration on climate action and partnerships between key stakeholders;
·Develop standardized approaches to emissions baselining, management, measurement and reporting for Ontario’s college sector;
·Develop curriculum and work-integrated learning opportunities to prepare students for employment in the low-carbon economy; and
·Create tools to assist businesses in transitioning to, and thriving in, the low-carbon environment.
The Centre for Climate Change Management will consist of three major components:
· A Campus Carbon Management Office that will establish a college-based and transferable model to baseline and plan for emissions reductions campus-wide;
· An Industry Partnerships Office that offers work integrated learning opportunities for students, and support (in the form of tools and training) to business and industry to comply with and succeed under cap and trade through achieving greater efficiency and reducing emissions from their operations; and
· A Bay Area Climate Change Coordinating Office that will provide the governance and implementation structure necessary for the collaborative implementation of Burlington’s Community Energy Plan and Hamilton’s Climate Change Action Plan.
The Executive Director, Centre for Climate Change Management
To lead this exciting new venture, you will need to be a strategic, visionary leader, with the ability to identify and action new opportunities and inspire staff, partners, industry and community stakeholders to accelerate climate action in the region.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Develop strategic and operating plans for the CCCM;
- Provide operational leadership, structure and processes to realize the goals of the CCCM;
- Develop, maintain and leverage relationships with partners, government, and other stakeholders to further the goals of the CCCM;
- Promote the CCCM by communicating its objectives and results and advocating on its behalf; and
- Ensuring the coordination and coherence of the Centre’s various projects.
Significant experience in a related role, and a proven record of championing and advancing sustainability issues and programs.
Expert knowledge of climate change issues and opportunties, and the Province’s Climate Change Action Plan and Cap and Trade Program.
Exceptional communicator with the ability to understand and communicate complex, technical concepts persuasively to government, business leaders, community stakeholders and the media.
Master relationship builder with the the ability to inspire, influence and forge consensus with mulitiple stakeholders and partners.
Demonstrated innovative and strategic thinking skills, proactive with a track record of identifying opportunities and developing and delivering pragmatic solutions.
Extensive experience in project, financial and human resources management.
Experience in planning and managing multiple deliverables in complex governance structures.
Experience working with institutional and municipal organizations and their respective senior staff and governance structures.
